Festival “Bach 333” – 7th Bach Days in Split, March 21 – 25, 2018
Project description:
The project “Bach Days in Split” is the first and only comprehensive event of its kind in Croatia, dedicated to the composer’s work. The project was launched in 2012 on the initiative of the professors of the Music Department of the Art Academy in Split – Vesna Podrug and Vladimir Kossjanenko and since then organized every year on the March 21-st about the composer’s birthday. In the coming years, the number of participants increased steadily, accompanied by the great public interest.
In 2015, the 330th anniversary of J.S. Bach was celebrated. During the 4th Bach Days in Split from March 19 to 22, 2015, four concerts and one lecture took place. Since this year the festival got an international character. Continuing the Bach Days in Split creates a new framework for concert activity for young and renowned musicians from Split and Croatia, promotes cooperation with prominent musicians from abroad and contributes to the concert life of the city of Split and tourism during the Easter season.
Four concerts are planned for the 7th Bach Festival, including two consecutive integral performances of Bach’s cello and solo violin cycles for the first time in Croatia. On Wednesday, March 21st, at 8 pm, in the Cathedral of St. Domnius, a distinguished Croatian violoncellist Mihovil Karuza performs all six suites for the cello solo. On Friday, 23rd and Saturday and 24th of March at 7 pm in the Cathedral of St. Domnius, violinist and concertmaster of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra Orest Shourgot performs all six sonatas and partitas for violin solo. On Sunday the 25th of March, at 11a.m., a concert will take place in the Museum of the City of Split, where the students of the Music School and the students of the Academy of Fine Arts will perform together.
This year’s Bach 333 Festival – the 7th Days of Bach in Split is organized by the Art Academy and the Artemis Music and Art Society in cooperation with the Parish of St. Domnius and where supported by the Cultural Department of the City of Split, Hotel Marul Split, Split Music School Josip Hatze and Museum of the City of Split.

The project “Days of Bach in Split” was launched in 2012 by two Professors of Music Department of the Academy of Arts Pianist Vesna Podrug and Viola player Wladimir Kossjanenko and is held every year on the birthday of the composer on March 21st.
The 6th Days of Bach are organized by Music Association ARTEMIS in cooperation with the Academy of Arts and the Student Council of the University of Split, the Music School “Josip Hatze”, with the support of the City of Split, the Tourist Board of Split and the Marina Kaštela.
During the festival will be held three concerts:

- On Tuesday, March 21st at 8 p.m. in the hall of the Academy of Arts in Zagrebačka Street 3, in a joint concert will perform students of Music Department of the Academy of Arts and students of the Music School “Josip Hatze”.
- On Wednesday, March 22nd at 6 p.m. in the hall of the Academy of Arts (Faust Vrančić Street 19), a young pianist from Zagreb Kosjenka Turkulin will perform the “Goldberg Variations”.
- At the final concert on Saturday, March 25th at 8.30 p.m., in the Foyer of the Croatian National Theatre in Split will perform Virtuosos of Split together with students of the String Department of the Academy of Arts under the direction of Wladimir Kossjanenko.

The program includes four brilliant instrumental concerts and soloists are: cellist Michael Karuza from Split, violinists Fritz Gearhart from Oregon (USA), Dragan Radosavljević from Berlin and Alina Gubajdullina from Zagreb. The concert program ends with a performance of an excellent young Croatian pianist Lovre Marušić.
The admission to the first two concerts is free. Tickets for the final concert are available at the box office of the Croatian National Theater in Split.

This year marks the 70 anniversary of the death of Bela Bartok and the 40 anniversary of the death of Dmitri Shostakovich – two important composers of the last century.
On Monday, November 30, 2015 at 7 p.m. at the Museum of Split, will be performed a concert entitled
“Concerto for Viola by Bela Bartok Sonata for Viola and by Dmitri Shostakovich – two musical testaments of XX century.”
Interpreters are Wladimir Kossjanenko, Viola and Vesna Podrug, Piano.
Concerto for Viola and Orchestra opus posthumous is one of the most important pieces by Bartok and in a special way reflects the catastrophe of World War II, which has been completed at the same time with the composition of this work.
In the same concert will be played Sonata for Viola and Piano by Dmitri Shostakovich. As like as Bartok’s Concerto for Viola, is this the last work of Shostakovich, that composer finished only few days before his death in August 1975th.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
This year On Saturday, Mach 21st we celebrate the 330 th anniversary of the birth of
Johann Sebastian Bach.
The 4th Days of J.S.Bach in Split organized by Musical Association ARTEMIS in cooperation with the Academy of Arts, the Music School Josip Hatze, Croatian National Theater in Split and parish Sv.Duje with the support of the City of Split, Split-Dalmatia County and the Marina Kaštela.
This time we prepared a varied program with five events. During the festival will be held one lecture and four concerts:
On Thursday, March 19th at 4 p.m. in the hall of the Academy of Arts at the University will be held a lecture by Ph.D. Vito Balic on specific aspects of polyphony and fuge and at 5 p.m. the concert of the professors of Department of Music of the Academy of Arts:

First time in the Days of J.S. Bach participating students of piano from the Music school Josip Hatze and the Academy of Arts in Split in a joint concert on Friday 20th March at 7 p.m. in the Hall of the Music School Josip Hatze.
On Saturday, March 21st at 5.30 p.m. in the Croatian National Theater in Split the chamber orchestra Virtuosos of Split conducted by Wladimir Kossjanenko will perform J.S. Bach`s Suite in B minor for flute, strings and basso continuo BWV1067 and two rare works:
Concerto for Piano and Strings in D major KV107 by Mozart written on topics of the piano sonata by Johann Christian Bach and Concerto for two pianos and strings in C major BWV 1061 by J.S. Bach.
Soloists are the pianists Olga Cinkoburova, Grigory Gruzman (Weimar), assistant of Daniel Barenboim Alexander Vitlin (Berlin) and Slovenian flutist Mark Zupan also from Berlin.
On Sunday, March 22nd at 7.30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Duje will be played the Goldberg Variations by J.S. Bach arranged for string trio. This monumental piece will be performed by violinist Dragan Radosavljevic from Berlin, violist Wladimir Kossjanenko and cellist Michael Karuza.
